There was once a fox that lay under the gate of his farm in his normal spot, almost asleep when suddenly he saw a dingy dirty crow land on top of the fence post. Looking up, he saw a juicy, yummy, mouth watering apple in the crow’s mouth. The fox loved apples. That's what the farmer and his wife always gave the fox when he did something good. He knew that was his apple and he really wanted it, so he walked up to the bottom of the tree and said, "My, my, Miss Crow. How lovely you look. Your feathers are jet black and so shinny and beautiful. How your eyes glow and I bet you even have a great voice to go with all your good looks!" Well, the crow started to get very big-headed about what the fox was saying and decided to caw the best she could. The crow opened her mouth and down went the apple. The apple didn't even hit the ground before the fox got it. “Let me give you some advice, Miss Crow. Just because someone tells you how great you are and how pretty you are just to get something from you isn't worth the hurt and disappointment.
The crow was very angry and upset. “That wasn't nice at all,” she said. “If you would have asked for some I would have shared it with you.” The fox felt bad and didn't know what to say, so he ran off to the farm, leaving the crow crying. The fox came back shortly afterwards and brought the crow one of his apples. Ever since that day the crow and the fox have been best friends
